The aftercare instructions following sedation or general anesthetic that I got from the vet read:
Avoid any heavy pet foods for the first 24 to 36 hours following an anesthetic or sedation. An animal may be given things such as toast, cottage cheese, lean meats and rice. Following this an animal should be worked back into a transition of food to its pet food. In other words, part bland diet, with increasing % of pet food.
Hope this helps.
