I'm at the same place you are. I don't really use those chemicals anymore. They are so toxic. Thankfully Ellie doesn't get a lot o fleas.
I don't think you have to dilute the Dawn at all...
If you are going to go with chemicals again I prefer not using Advantix (different then Advantage) because of the permethrin they add.
