There's no such thing as Canine Klein or Arf-mani, but Lodians found out dogs can be fashionable too with the first annual "Downtown in Style" fashion show.
The canine couture, as well as fashions for the two-legged, were showcased at Thursday's Downtown Lodi Farmer's Market.
The first group of small breed dogs were escorted by leash onto the catwalk wearing camouflage. The emcee quipped that their "dog tags" were inscribed with "Rambo."
Next was a pink dog outfit and a coordinating pink doggy tote bag, perfect for hiding a pint-sized pup when shopping.
Fashions were from the Kingdom of Four Paws shop.
Tina Cortez, of Lodi, shops there a lot and was asked if Roxy, her tiny 4-month-old Yorkshire terrier, would like to take a run on the catwalk. One of her outfits was a pink taffeta tutu with matching headpiece.
"I fuss with her everyday, so she has no choice," said Cortez, nestling the hand-held puppy who enjoys being dressed up.
Human fashions included maternity, women's, formal, children's and infant wear.
Children modeled overalls, Hawaiian coordinating shorts and shirts and formal dresses.
The children didn't quite know how to sashay, so moms had to give the kids a few directions from offstage so they would walk all the way down the platform and return.
Others seemed to be naturals, like Kendall Gooding, a 3-year-old with curly red hair who did twirls and spins in pretty pink dresses from the children's clothing store, Zoop-A-Loop.
Peggy Kougios said she has never done professional work, but was happy to do it for her friend, the owner of one of the businesses contributing to the show, Pret.
She modeled women's pinstriped pants with a long jacket and a colorful flower print dress. She even received a whistle from the crowd.
"I represent the seniors," she said. "And there were a lot of us out there."
