Ruby's coat is also very silky and thin. I've been told it's because she has a more fragile silk hair type, that is most likely breaking. Even playing and rubbing on carpet will break this type of hair.
It's not likely to actually get thicker because of genetics. So, the best I can do is keep it in good shape (clean and well conditioned, no overheating w/dryers) and possibly start wrapping for more protection.
Supplements and diet, as with human hair will only help so much. If there is a deffiency in their diet they would most certainly help. Otherwise not so much, though you might see some benefit, in some cases.
Lately the biggest problem with getting her coat to grow has been Reno - he is forever biting her hair!
