I think you would need to take it very slowly. It is a good thing you have so much time.
Is your goal to have him potty trained only outside or will you still be using potty pads?
My little guy (6 month) is also potty pad trained. I am finding it to be a little bit of a problem. When we go to the park for my DD's soccer games...I HAVE to take a potty pad for him to go potty. It is really weird! We also went away for our first long, car trip over the Christmas holidays and at every stop I had get out his potty pad...but he wouldn't go potty because there were to many "new' things to look at. We decide it would better if him was able to go potty outside and on his potty pads.
I have been taking my little guy outside first thing in the morning for the past few days and he has gone. I was so surprised! I also watch the clock and take him out every 3 hours. I have left all his potty pads where they are. I don't want to confuse him by moving those.
