I know that my Grandpa's cat, Squeek, went through some urinary mineral build-up (I don't think it was full stones but a build up in the urethra) and since the second occurance in a year Squeek's been on prescription cat food (pretty sure it's Hills) to break down minerals and prevent stones or further build up. He's been on it for at least 3 years and the problem hasn't returned.

So I do know that the presciption food should help in the future. Good luck with the surgery, sorry I don't know anything further.
