I have an alarm and I highly recommend it. I don't know if it is a deterrent seeing as I don't have the sign posted but I sleep better. In the summertime I felt like the house was very vunerable when we are up in the bedrooms with the window units running. So it makes me feel much better to have it. Hubby works night so I make sure it's on when he is not here and were all alone.
