Memphis has a super wirey coat because of the cairn terrier in him. If I use conditioner on him it softens it a bit. I have heard that some cairns are really mellow pups. Memphis was a really mellow pup but he is a mix. Hard to say right now. Give the pup a little time to totally adjust.
