Definitely a good idea to find a trainer who knows about small dogs/yorkies. I did Brody's training at Petsmart, and while the teacher was good, she strongly suggested Brody wear a collar instead of a harness for training purposes. I don't use collars because of the trachea issue. So one day during class, I broke down and let her try the collar, and she was yanking on him! I was like "HELLO! Do you know anything about Yorkie's tracheas?" It was horrible. I didn't bring my collar to class anymore. Brody was quite stubborn when walking on a leash in class, and she would always say, "You should the collar." Sorry, but I am more concerned about my puppy's health rather than if he can walk on a leash or not. AND when he is on a leash outside, in the wide open, he is perfectly fine. I think it was just the environment at Petsmart - so much to smell and see. Find a trainer who is sensitive to the health concerns of a Yorkie.
