Several years ago, I had this with problem with my cocker, Peppi.
Her heats cycles were never normal. At times she would come in heat shortly after going out of heat and other times it was a very long time in between heats.
It was due to a hormonal imbalance and we had her spayed.

I would definitely talk with your vet and see if he thinks additional testing needs to be done. If you aren't planning on breeding her, spaying is really the best for her health.
