I think regardless of testing (which is a moot point right now since she is already pregnant), it is a good idea to have x-rays, especially if she is a first time mom. My yorkie Sunshine comes from lines of free whelpers and she in fact was able to free whelp her first litter. But her second required a c-section. I would not have known she needed the section if I had not had x-rays done. Even though the vet was pretty sure she would have then naturally, I knew within the last week that it was iffy, so when she started in labor and didn't progress, I took her in and she did require the section. It is much better to be safe than sorry, so I would opt for the x-rays. They not only can show you the size of the puppies, they also help to determine if she has had them all by knowing how many are in there. Good luck.
