My sisterinlaw's hubby named Jaya.... (I had not known at the time, but he had gotten the name from a famous indian actress who was big in the 1960s..and actually who is still very famous)... so everyone always assumes i named her after that actress. However, the first time i heard it, i loved it...it sounded so angelic and suited her perfectly.

Naming Jaya was a big ordeal because initially we thought we were going to carry over the name Lola. Before we had gotten Jaya, we had placed a deposit on a puppy in the states from just a backyard breeder (which i hadnt realized at the time was a bad thing). Anyways, after the first time we visited the puppy at 8 weeks old, we decided on the name Lola. But three days before we were scheduled to pick her up, she died because there was water in her brain (it was so devastating to us). A week later, karma came through, and we came home with a puppy with the same birthday as Lola.

It took us about a week and half to choose between going with Lola or another name, but the first time i heard "Jaya" --that was it.

I had picked out the name Jenna before we even got her... I had wanted a J- name (im one of those geeks who has matching names for her dogs, and who will have matching names for her kids haha)

For me... it depends on the 'sound' of the name, how it feels, and how it suits the puppy.
