They can get a little tangled sometimes, but they are like plastic covered wire, so they do not tangle as easily as rope! it usually works out well! I know what you mean about tie them out and it not being the same! When I got my boys, even though I had a townhouse, my mom lived up the street in a house with a fenced in yard, for for over a year, Id bring them up there to just zoom around her yard with her dog! It was great! They dont have that freedom anymore and I felt sooo bad for them when she moved! Its not the same, but its a safe, cheaper way to give them some freedom!
