This happened to my maltese, he likes to make love to his blanket

My husband pulls the skin over it( very gently) and it will go back after a few minutes, I've never done it before but have seen him do it at least 4 times, the first time it happened, I called the vet and they guided me thru and said unless it doesn't go back all the way to take him in..................I wash him after just to make sure there is no hairs or foreing particles
