White karo syurp works just as well as nutrical, and you don't want to give it to them unless they're not eating or drinking..I got my first yorkie before she was 7 weeks, and never once had to use anything with her..Infact, she's almost 5 years now, and I've never had any behavioral problems with her..
Like I said as to whether you're home all day and want to train outside and get him on a schedule, or use the pee pads(if your'e gone a lot) it's all up to you..I prefer the pee pads, and have been using them for 10 years without any regret..it's entirely up to you...with him so young, I would start him on the pee pads, and if you decide to take him outside, move the pad closer and closer to the door you're going to be taking him out..
I have also used the xpen for a few years, and I love it..!
