Some people communicate better with animals than other people. My vet can be an absolute b*itch to me-but she knows her stuff and my dog likes her, so I suck it up and listen.
If you like how he is with your dogs and agree with what he says, I'd stick with him. You are paying him for a service-he doesn't have to be friendly (although it would be nice.)
