That is tough one!!! I will tell you what I am doing (in a little different situation). My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 4 years ago. Her doctors (more than 1 in the practice) have absolutely NO bedside manner which freaked me out at first because we were so clueless about diabetes and they acted like I was a complete idiot. However, they are fantastic endocronologists (except for that)---very knowledgeable, are pediatric doctors (so they only work with kids with type 1--not adult-onset type 2) and are without doubt the best in the city of Atlanta. They are just not very warm and fuzzy. I contemplated switching so many times, but didn't. We had friends that told us that doctors need to listen and be compassionate (which I completely agree with). Finally, I did make an appointment with another doctor that someone else suggested and he was very, very kind. Took a lot of time with us and was very friendly, but not as concerned with a strict management plan for my daughter (kind of the old kids will be kids routine). Since diabetes has very serious long-term complications if not kept in check---this bothered me. We went back to the old doctors. Now that it has been 4 years and we are more comfortable with the disease and the best way to manage it (and I'm not as intimidated), I am glad we didn't permanently switch. I am paying for the best possible care for my daughter and don't need to be friends with them. I need to stress that the doctors have never been rude or unhelpful. They are just abrupt.
My suggestion is to figure out if you think you are getting the best care for your furbabies. If you are (and can handle the unpleasant side)---I would stick with it. My bottom line was who was going to help me keep my daughter healthy (the best in the field, not who was the nicest). I think it is the same for you. Maybe you can be one of the lucky few to find one that meets all your needs! Good luck!
