Default Walking your pups

Do your babies beg to be picked up shortly after starting a walk? I go very slowly for Guinness' short legs and let him investigate things, but so far we've only gone about 8 houses down and before we even turn around he's wanting to be carried. Little toot. It's so cute though because during our walk he is looking up at me and I encourage him telling him he's doing a great job, etc.

I'm working on getting him to walk beside me and not weave in and out of my legs, I'm so worried I'll trip on him. I put some resistance on his leash (no collar on him) and just try to sort of steer him.

Are there any pointers I need during these walks?

Thanks
