My vet doesn't charge a office visit for a shot...........I guess I am lucky, and he does come in and checks her ears and eyes and feels around her body but still only charges the shot, not a doctor's fee. I think your vet is rude and maybe you need to find a different vet because like someone else posted,. what is going to happen in case of an emergency?? I would be worried
Also when he made the comment about his doctor gave him staph infection and he had to pay for treatment, If he had proof that his doctor did this he could've sued him
