My husband got my little Topper for me for Christmas and same situation, the person he got Topper from said they bought him and 2 others from a breeder that was more of a puppy mill. They were reselling him because he was to small to breed their female. Anyway, he is very skittish of almost everything, he is doing much better with me but he is still skittish with my husband and will run to his crate when hubby comes home. Hopefully with patience and socialization he will get used to hubby also, I would hate to have to choose.
