My dogs do this lots. especially in a morning if they haven't eaten yet.
Eating grass etc is fairly normal, just be sure they can't get to anything poisonous in the garden.
One of mine is a real little scamp for taking things in the house to chew if he can.....paper, keys, last thing was my husband's brand new mobile phone
