I don't know about the socks, but I found online that you can make sweaters/shirts using sleeves off of old sweaters, sweatshirts etc. Just find the one that fits...use the cuff as the neck and cut holes for legs..then just stitch around the cut marks. You can then add, lace, and all sorts of pretty things to make them special.
