I think they just raised prices again because oil is up to a $100 a barrel. If you belong to any frequent flier programs, make sure you're signed up for the email option. I get email almost every week from Northwest and Midwest, and then occasionally from American, Delta & United. Frequently they have discounts or you hear first when they're having a sale.
I would advise joining any frequent flier programs (since they're free) that fly out of your airport, so you know what is going on.
Midwest is an excellent airlines & they fly into KC - sometimes I find they have the best price
Also, if you already have air miles with a carrier also, look at buying your ticket with miles - that might help
