5 months is still young. My little guy is 13 weeks old and I am home with Jeter so I keep track of when he eats and I get him out side a half hour after that. Also I take him outside after he has taken a nap and also after he has been playing with our family.Jeter will go in a circle sniffing around and that is a clue that I look for to let him out. I have read a few books on potty training to get a few ideas and so far I have not had many problems. Good luck!
