I value mixed or, as those who do not discriminate in the athletic dog events. like to call them, All Americans, just as much as I do the purebreds so, if there was puppy that was so unique and unusual that I just had to have it and it had everything I was looking for for my family, then I would pay whatever the breeder felt was fair. I have seen mixes that were so unigue and darling and no way of ever getting it again so it is a "one of a kind" and that is valuable to me because I like unique.
I do not equate mixed breeds directly from a breeder with the dogs you find in shelters because those in the shelter usually have been mistreated, are older, have behavioral issues or other things which make them less desirable, however not less deserving. I believe most good breeders deserve way more than what they typically ask for their puppies and I for one would rather pay more to insure that the breeder has the money to give the puppies and their parents the very best care. I would feel badly if I didn't pay enough to compensate the breeder for all that went into the care of that litte rincluding the prenatal care for the mother as wellas the breeders time which they rarely count in when setting the price.
If our furbabies are truly "priceless" to us, then I think it is hypocritical not to expect the breeder to provide the best of care and not expect to pay for it. We all want babies who had the best start in life and it is the breeders who give them that.
Bottom line is I would pay the same price for a mixed breed as I would for a purebred because one is no more valuable than the other to me. |
Very well said Kim. I myself have 2 mixed breed dogs and I think they are both the greatest. Take a look at Memphis. Do you really think that I could get another one of him by just crossing a chinese crested and a cairn?? I dont think so. He is soooooo unique. And that is part of what I love about him.
Same with recon. He is also unique. So I guess my bottom line is that I would pay a high price for a mixed breed pup also if it was truly what I was looking for.
