  I agree with using much caution in leaving puppies until they are far past the puppy/curious/chewing stages.  There is too much that a pup can get into.  Even chewing on a chair leg can result in a splinter. 
Years and years ago we had a poodle chew threw a cord.  She did live, but had terrible burns and developed epilepsy from it. So yes, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!  Thanks for the reminder and warning.
