I had to train in kitchen *yikes. There was vinyl flooring and I could keep papers down. Ted's roaming around the house was very restricted. His cage was left in the kitchen close to his water/food and there was no carpet to soak up the accidents. Closer to the door as well. Yeah I think you have the right idea. I got two doggie gates and think the beat plan of action is to confine her to the kitchen and living area which has tile and laminate wood flooring when I can't watch her closely and try and take her out every 2-3 hours to pee. She doesn't sleep in the crate at night that's the only time she she seems to make the biggest boo-boos (she sleeps on the bed with me and our other dog, a weiner dog named Skunky). I wish I could just rip out the carpet (I hate carpet) but this house is a lease/purchase option and I haven't decided if I want to buy it, so that's not an option. She never peed on the hardwoods in my old place, always used outside or the pee pads, but now she thinks the carpet is a GAINT pee pad.
