One of my rescue cats had a pretty bad murmur and the vet wanted to put her down at 4 mths old - he said she probably wouldn't live past 2 years old. WELL, she lived to be 15 years old - and never required any surgery or anything special. So, your baby may be just fine!

The important thing to remember w/ murmurs is to attend quickly to anything that ever appears to get infected - as there is an increased vulnerability to infections causing unforeseen systemic issues (ie sepsis etc).
