I think it is only normal to worry about the things we care for and love. I am like this with my kids so I knew I would be like this with Jeter. I have one son who has a Primary Immune defect and was sick as a baby, we almost lost him 3 different times before they were able to find out what was wrong with him, by then he was 9months old and had spent more time in the hospital then he had at home. He's 13 now and looking at him he looks great, you would never guess he has a life threatening illness! I also had 2 of my boy's born 3 months early at 27 weeks and that was super scarry too! To this day I worry about my kids health and safety non stop! What parent doesn't? So I can see were we worry about our dear loved pets as well, you care a great deal for them so it's only natural.
