I had the same questions when I went in search of a puppy. I still am not sure why a female costs more. I also found that generally a female is harder to find and that 9 times out of 10, there are more boys in a litter. Now that may not be the norm so all you breeders don't jump me on that, I'm not trying to make a quote or state a fact, that is just what I came upon in my search. Anyway, I feel like I would have been happy either way, but I had my heart set on a girl and decided to wait for a girl. In case you are new here, we only had her for a few days and she passed because she had a serious case of coccidia and then some other complications. I am now waiting to get another and I will probably get another girl. Although they say most male dogs don't have a problem of raising their leg after being neutered, I still know of several dogs (not necesarily yorkies) that still do, so that is a big concern. I think it's basically personal preference and I believe I would fall in love with any yorkie at first sight without knowing it's gender!
