Thanks for the reply, Meggie. Her mats are on the side that she sleeps on, now I come to think of it. She also has a harness and there are mats where that is too. At least I now know what is causing them, thanks. They are just so difficult to get out! Poor little thing has to be so patient, as I take them out slowly so as not to hurt her. She gets fed up with the whole thing. I am wondering if perhaps my brush is not a very good one for her coat. I got it at a pet store and it wasn't very expensive. Perhaps a better brush will help keep the mats out? Perhaps I should brush twice a day? I am clutching at straws now! She isn't a puppy - she is 4 years old - five in two months time. I have only had her for a few months.
