If they came upon a biscuit on the ground, they'd probably eat it if they were hungry. Because dogs are carnivores, their digestive system is not set up to properly digest fruits, veggies and grains. From what I've read, I've sided with the theory that dogs don't need fruits and veggies..and certainly not grains. However, I don't think a small amount of fruits and veggies will hurt either. The Nature's Variety raw has about 5% fruits and veggies and they put certain ones in there for specific reasons by the company. They are ground up into teeny tiny pieces so I believe they are easier to digest than if you just gave whole veggie to a dog. I don't think the amount of veggies in NV raw is going to hurt Lacy at all...and I figure 5% is like a treat. |
You explained that great.

I feed my dogs raw meat by itself but I do give baby carrots, fresh green beans and some fruit (watermelon, honeydew, etc.) as a treat now and then. They don't get them every single day but they do get them a few times a week. I also still give my babies bully sticks as treats and they are fine with that.
I'm pleased to say that they are MUCH happier since being on this new way of eating.
