Your right. Never put your pup in his crate as a punishment. It should be
his place to feel secure, only.
A nine week old pup is a tiny baby. They know nothing about anything.
You have to teach them, much like you would a child.
A stern NO should be all that is needed. It will be sometime before
he comprehends what is ok and what is not.
