When I first got Spike, I had the same concern, because he barely seemed to eat any of his kibble, although he was drinking from his water dish. His pees and poops were normal, though, so I didn't worry too much. I just kept track of how much food I was giving him, and kept track of how much had been eaten each day. After a while, I noticed that he was more willing to eat when I was watching him, and the same amount of food would be 'missing'. I have a theory that they are more secretive about eating when they are in a new environment.
Also, because they are so small, be careful of how many treats you are giving them because even a small treat can be like a meal to them, and you want to make sure they eat their kibble because it is far better for them nutritionally.
Don't worry - no puppy I've ever encountered has ever starved themselves when there is food available to them! |
