I live in Spain, so maybe prices can't be compared, but my vet charges €12 per visit, €30 per visit+shots. He pulled 4 of Milo's teeth out for €30 -although he did it while he was neutered, so he didn't need to charge for anaesthesia (I think it would have been around €60 more).
But in my opinion the real problem is that you don't really like your vet. I would change vets immediately if I were not confortable with them - in fact I did with my old dog. I used to take him to a well-known vet, really expensive, until the day the poor puppy hurt his leg (a bone got out of place) and he mended it without using any painkillers. That was it. I looked for another vet, and found the one I go to now, which has really been a godsend.
