I was thinking about doing some sort of "baking area" in the kitchen too...I seen that on a house show....there is a big area of counter top space for rolling out dough and having cooling racks....there is are doors between the counter and cabinet (cabents for baking stuff) where you can hide the mixer, etc.

I like the idea of having the area (like you mentioned) for plugging in the small appliances in the pantry....that is one thing that I will definitely change....our kitchen pantry....ours is too small....and I need room for all the things that I don't use often...like the crockpot, etc.......
