The only thing AKC registration guarantees is that BOTH parents were also registered AKC with full registration (rights to breed).
You have to do your homework on typical genetic problems and how to interview a good breeder. Both of my dogs are AKC. Sammy will need to have surgery on her knees and Loki is on 2 medications for a disease that is genetic and he has had it since birth. So, papers are NO guarantee.
On the flip side, a good breeder is *most* likely to register AKC. Show-quality pups will be registered with AKC or comparable kennel club (they are not all equally respected). |
