Yes you do have some time, most vets encourage doing it asap but 6 months is the typical age I believe. Mia came into heat at 8 months but she's so tiny my vet wanted to wait until she got as big as possible but we did it before her 2nd heat, I've heard it could be at different ages. The most health benefits come from getting them spayed before the first heat though.
