He could be teething and food is getting trapped between the teeth. Or, he could have a sour stomach and that is where the stench is coming from.
Watch his teeth and make sure that the baby ones come out or else you'll have to get them pulled. If you're planning on neutering him, you can have both procedures done at the same time.
