I have an x-pen that is set up in a semi-circle at my front door, attached to the wall on both ends. I can open the door and people can come and go without the dogs ever having access to the door. Yes, it's a little inconvenient, but well worth it. I've dealt with it for over 10 years now and it's just part of life at my house.
