Default Preventing Tragedies

I used to post here but stopped about 2 years ago because I got too depressed reading about how other people's yorkies were injured or killed by mostly preventable accidents. Here is an idea I use to prevent such an occurrence and
hope others can learn from it.

If you know your dog has a tendency to rush the front door when guests or your family comes to the door, and what yorkie doesn't?, then keep your dog in a room that is gated from the front door. I never let Jackson have free run of the house, I have to know where he is. He stays, mainly in the kitchen and if some one comes to the front door he can see them from the kitchen but can't get to the door where he could run out. I have a step-over gate which is the best. Anyone can step over it and it needs no installation as it is free-standing.
