This might sound like a long involved process, but sometimes you have to take the long way to find the shortcut. If you take it a baby step at a time, you can help him overcome the anxiety. It will take some planning on your part and some help, but here goes......
The goal is to be able to leave him without Memphis freaking out. That is the ultimate goal, you cannot start there, you have to start at a point where Memphis is comfortable and happy.... say sitting on the couch with him in your lap. Set him on the floor and praise him if he doesn't freak out (he probably won't, but if he does it is VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A STARTING POINT WHERE HE IS COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE. Pick him up and hug on him and then set him down and you stand up...... praise the heck out of him if he does not freak out, if he acts upset, then reassure him and repeat.....
That is baby step one.....
If this process intrigues you, please pm me for step 2. I don't want to take up so much space for folks who might not be interested. |
