Treadmill or eliptical over a bike. The bike doesn't burn near as many calories and you have to do twice the work. The trainers I have worked with and search and rescue swimmers I know all say that the bike is essentially worthless...now, if you are out doing something like training for a tour-de-france then (regular) bikes are a good thing, but you have to know how to use them.
