Do you have some very sharp hair cutting scizzors? You might try scizzor-cutting them
very carefully. It probably is the noise of the clippers that he is reacting to. When training Abigail's ears (I never did tape), I began with the scizzors, and later went to a moustache trimmer. The scizzor-cutting is, indeed, a painstaking labor of love and quite unnerving. But, I got the idea from a show breeder, and it did work to help her ears pop up.
She doesn't mind the small trimmer, but she did react strongly to a regular dog clipper. She actually now seems to love having her ears trimmed! When she sees them, she comes running and sits very still. I'm SOOOOOO glad this is not a fight; but, it seems to me that the trimmer would sound like bees near her ear...
However, do not
even try doing anything to her feet!
