I have "teapots" (8 lbs) and they prefer to have something to help with getting off the couch. I have their snoozer carseat sitting on the floor next to the couch. Shelby won't get on the couch unless she has it to us as a "step". When they were little, I made a ramp out of throw pillows that they used.
I guess this really didn't answer your direct question, but thought it may give you some ideas!
