Kwanzaa is a week-long festival celebrated primarily in the USA, honoring African-American heritage. It is observed from 12/26 to 1/1 each year.
It features activities such as candle-lighting, a feast and gift giving.
It was created by Dr. Maulana Karenqa and first celebrated in 12/26/66. It is a extremely happy and fun occasion for those of African-American ancestry.
Each day focuses on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement.
I hope this explains it. And I also wish those celebrating it a happy Kwanzaa.
Kwanzaa means "first fruits of the harvest" in the African language Kiswahili,. Contrary to public opinion, it is neither political nor religious and is not a substitute for Christmas.
It is simply a time of reaffirming African-American people, their ancestors and culture.
thanks Corrinne, for bringing it to our attention.
