jumping off of things should be avoided if possible. I wouldn't let mine jump on or off the bed because its about 3 feet off the floor. my couch is about 1 1/2-2 feet off the floor and she jumps off this but probably shouldn't. If i had room for steps i would get them. Dogs break their legs all the time jumping off of things. They can also cause luxating patellas or tear a cruciate ligament in the knee, as well as injure their elbows and necks.

lots of people here have steps for their dogs to get on and off the couch as well as the bed. its safer.
