I use both as well. Let me tell ya, it's nice knowing the pads are there on a lazy Saturday morning when I don't want to get out of bed at 6:00am to let them out.
I would try to just let them out more frequently, but leave the pads down for awhile. Maybe make the pad area smaller and smaller while letting them out more frequently. Good Luck to you.
