Yeah, rawhide is bad when swallowed. It can also get caught in their tiny mouths and cause them to gag. I had to pull a rawhide moccasin out of Eddie's mouth one time when it got lodged on the roof of his mouth.
If you do try rawhide, they should be supervised at all times and it should be taken away from them when it gets soft.
