Angel were very swollen too. It looked like she had a small penis protruding.
She got pregnant during her first heat so I don't know if its supposed to go back to normal after that or what. I do know that it hasn't gone back since she had babies.
If I were to take a guess, I would assume it swells like that in preparation of insertion. So they can get "Stuck" together easier, which in turn pretty much guarantees a pregnancy.
